Papa Erik’s Air Fryer Chicken Wings

Papa Erik’s Air Fryer Chicken Wings

If you are in need of a 30 minute meal (give or take), this is one of the easiest, quickest, and most effortless chicken wing recipes. I named them Papa Erik’s wings because I’m a dad, and Lord knows I don’t have time to waste. So a quick and easy air fryer recipe that is still great quality and I can whip up for my family is super valuable in my book.

Time

10 minutes prep

25 minutes cook

Ingredients

20 chicken wings

1 egg

Splash of water (or 1 tbs)

½ cup flour

1 tsp kosher salt

4-5 cracks of fresh cracked pepper to taste

1 tbs sesame seeds (optional)

Avocado oil cooking spray (or other cooking spray)

Crispy, crunchy outside, just like it was straight out of a fryer.

Steps

  1. Rinse the chicken wings and lay them out on a baking sheet. Pat them down dry with a paper towel to get the excess liquid and chicken juice off the wings (water & myoglobin).
  2. Beat 1 egg in a mixing bowl and add a splash of water until it’s a runny liquid. Place all the chicken wings in the bowl and mix to coat all wings in the egg wash.
  3. In a separate mixing bowl add the flour, salt, pepper and sesame seeds and whisk until mixed well.
  4. At this point I like to prepare my air fryer basket on the drip pan while I carefully take one wing at a time out of the egg wash and shake off the excess. Then I quickly dredge it in flour and carefully lay out skin side up on the fryer basket. You do not want the delicious chicken skin accidentally sticking to the bottom when you take them out.
  5. I set my air fryer to 350 for 25 minutes. Depending on your air fryer you may have different settings, but again this is intense heat continually circulating around your food. It should cook in no more than that. When in doubt, take one out and cut it open. If it looks undone put it back for a few more minutes. For me, when the marrow starts seeping out of the chicken bone, that’s when I know the heat has gotten into all the right places.
  6. Some folks choose to flip their wings and that is fine. I go for the more effortless route – that which exerts the least amount of possible effort. Anyway the basket is raised and allows air to circulate underneath anyway to give you an all around even crisp. Flip if your heart desires!
  7. Serve these naked or with your favorite sauce. I always think a good buffalo sauce is great on wings like these (mixing melted butter and your favorite cayenne based sauce is an easy way to do it). Since these have sesame seeds I ended up lightly coating them with a mix of soy sauce, sambal (SE Asian chili paste), sesame oil, and rice vinegar to give it a spicy Asian kick.
